The Athletic Department presented the awards listed below during the Spring Sports Awards on May 11. Congratulations to these award recipients!
The Jon Woods Award is presented to a student who has supported our athletic program in many different ways and with many different sports and who has demonstrated energy and excitement in our wins and support during our losses. This year’s recipient is Riley Wagoner.
The Carlton Harris Award is named in honor of Carlton M. Harris Jr., who was a member of Greensboro Day School’s class of 1976 and who played tennis at Notre Dame, where the same award is given in his honor. This year’s recipient is Matthew Dewey.
The Molly Brenner Award is given annually to a student basketball manager who exceeds the coach’s expectations and shows extraordinary dedication to the school’s basketball program. The award is named in honor of Molly Brenner ’05, whose enthusiasm and selfless dedication to the GDS basketball program led to her success as the varsity basketball manager at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This year’s recipient is Reagan Sumner.
The Davis Richmond Award is given to a member of the varsity girls basketball team who strives to always do her best in everything she does while participating in athletic events. This player exemplifies hard work and dedication to her sport and always demonstrates a positive attitude toward her team and coaches. This year’s recipient is Melia Hopkins.
The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to a male and female student-athlete who earn a varsity letter in at least two sports during the last school year; show high academic effort; always represent GDS in a positive manner; demonstrate leadership, honesty, integrity, and good sportsmanship; and reach a high level of athletic excellence. This year’s recipients are Kate Jones, Brenna Holden, and Oliver Kreimer.
