Admission Process
At Greensboro Day School, we commit to challenge and inspire students in and out of the classroom. Here, we build and value relationships among students, faculty, and community. The faculty and staff at Greensboro Day School look forward to helping you in any way we can.
Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you can make. We want this process to be as easy as possible for you and your family. We realize that different families have different needs, and we have designed our admissions process to reflect that knowledge. The process is made up of a series of steps that will help us get to know the students and families who are considering the school. Likewise, moving through the admission process will help you get to know Greensboro Day School better.
GDS uses an online application system through Blackbaud called myGDS. Within myGDS, families may complete the online admission application, request academic records and teacher recommendation forms, and track the status of the application.

Step 1: Submit an Application
Submitting an application through our website is the first step of beginning the admission process. Once an application is processed, families will have access to their admission checklist in their myGDS portal. All required paperwork is managed electronically through the portal. There is a non-refundable application fee of $75. -
Step 2: Review Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees for the 2022-23 school year can be found here. Families interested in applying for need-based financial assistance are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the FA process prior to proceeding with the admission process. -
Step 3: Required Paperwork
Required paperwork for all applicants include:- Parent Questionnaire
- Teacher Feedback Form(s)
- Transcript copies from current year and previous 2 years
- Completion of a writing prompt
- Previous writing sample

Step 4: Admission Screening
Bengal Tots - Junior Kindergarten
Early Childhood applicants attend an observations playdate with a small group of same-age peers.
Kindergarten - Grade 4
Applicants in grades K-4 attend a 1:1 screening with a Lower School faculty member to complete a variety of activities.
The above admission screenings are done by appointment after January 1.
Grades 5 - 12
Applicants for Middle and Upper School are required to submit previous standardized testing scores. These may include, but are not limited to; EOY/EOG, ERB, PSAT, or SAT scores.
Additional assessments or materials may be requested at any time. -
Step 5: Student Visit Day
To experience all that GDS has to offer both socially and academically, applicants for grades 1-12 will spend a day visiting with their current grade peers. Due to current COVID policies in place, this step is waived until further notice. -
Notification Dates
Applications for all grades are accepted throughout the year if there is space available. Initial decisions for completed applications are made at the first of February, and continue throughout the spring and summer on a rolling basis. Once all parts of the admission process are complete, families can typically expect a decision within two weeks. Admission decisions are made separately from decisions about need-based financial assistance.
