Fourth Graders Raise $1,100 for Displaced Ukrainian Families

Greensboro Day School fourth graders were on a mission to help those in need, even in the waning days of the school year. In January, they realized a long-time dream of creating a school store in their elementary division. In order to accomplish this, they applied for and learned about jobs such as accountant, architect, brand manager, inventory manager, and sales clerk. They established a name and a brand (The Bengal Pop Up Shop) with the vision of selling school supplies and student-made items, with all profits going to local charities.

At the same time, a group of fourth graders developed a plan to help displaced families in Ukraine by making and selling stress balls. For the last weeks of school, fourth graders managed the sales of stress balls and other student-made items. On May 24, students presented a check for $1,106.46 to the Coalition of Good, a local organization focused on helping displaced Ukrainian families. Executive Director Scott Silknitter, along with Kelly Graves, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Kellin Foundation, came to Greensboro Day School today to receive the check along with some essential supplies and handwritten notes from GDS students to Ukrainian children. What a beautiful way to end the school year!
