Welcome to the PA!

Welcome to the GDS Parents Association!

Every GDS parent is automatically a member of the Parents Association (PA). As a group, we support and show appreciation to students, parents, faculty, and staff throughout the year with a variety of fun events and surprises.

All parents are encouraged to attend PA meetings, volunteer as your time allows (watch PawPrints for signup opportunities), and attend events with your families.

Want to get involved right away?
  • Join the Spirit Committee by contacting Ashley Mazzei. Not surprisingly, this team is full of school spirit and plans lots of fun events throughout the year.
  • Volunteer for our first big event of the year: BengalFest! This is an all-school festival on Friday, October 6, with carnival games, home sports, food trucks, and Fiddle Fusion performance. (Contact Ashley Anderson or watch PawPrints in August for a signup form.)

Parents' Association Mission

What is the Mission of the Parents’ Association? We strive to support faculty, students and parents at Greensboro Day School by working together to plan and implement effective fundraising and community building events. The PA also works to strengthen parental involvement and communication across our school community.

Parents' Association Events

  • Cheers and Tears Breakfast: a coffee and breakfast hosted for preschool and kindergarten families after drop-off on the first day of school.
  • Bengal Fest: a fun fall afternoon for the whole family filled with middle school/JV/Varsity athletic games, Fiddle Fusion music, carnival games for all ages, food, and more.
  • Monthly Faculty/Staff Appreciation Events: hosted by families in each division to give our faculty and staff special treats to show them how much we appreciate them!
  • All-School Staff Appreciation Events: In February and during Teacher/Staff Appreciation week in May, we host all-school events for faculty and staff. We also have other surprises throughout the year to show our appreciation for all that they do.
  • Bengal Paws for Service: Bengal Paws for Service is an annual day of service for parents, students, faculty, and staff. The entire community gathers to serve together and work with area non-profit organizations.
  • Bengal Dash: Since 2007, the Bengal Dash brings runners and walkers to campus for a registered 5K run and a 1-mile kids’ obstacle course fun run. Proceeds from this event support the Philanthropy Council.
  • Under the Stars: A casual social evening for parents on the Keeley Commons (weather permitting) with food, drinks, music, and more. It is held every fall.
  • Green & Gold Gala: This is the "don't miss" parent event of the year and helps to provide financial support from the Parents Association for Teacher Enrichment Endowment Fund (TEEF) grants, and special projects on campus. It is held every other year.

How to Volunteer!

The GDS school community would not be what it is today without the continuous support and volunteer efforts of our parents.

Parents' Association Projects

  • Bengal Closet: A GDS clothing resale store operated by the PA. We accept donations of gently used special occasion attire and GDS spirit wear of all sizes. Check the school calendar for hours that we are open for you to shop for new-to-you items at a great price!
  • Philanthropy Council: A council of students, parent representatives, and members of the faculty/staff who oversee the distribution of charitable funds. Any GDS student or student group can submit an application and make a presentation to request funding from the Philanthropy Council. These funds are to be used for projects that serve the community in a meaningful way.
  • VIC Card: If you haven’t already done so, please re-link your Harris Teeter VIC Card to GDS! It must be relinked every school year. Annually, we receive more than $2,500 from the Harris Teeter Together in Education program. With your help, we can increase this amount! You can link your card online at harristeeter.com or in any Harris Teeter store. Our school code is 3746. Please ask your family and friends to link, too. We will receive credit for dollars spent at any Harris Teeter, even if it is not in our local area. For more information, please contact Ashley Mazzei, Spirit Committee Chair.

Providing Support to Families

The GDS Parents Association is not only asking for your support, but we are here to support you, too! We have two committees designed to help support families:

PA CARES: The Greensboro Day School PA CARES is an ongoing Parents Association program developed to enhance the GDS community by providing support to GDS families, faculty, and staff in times of need. Whether it is a tough time like surgery, illness, or death in the family or a time to celebrate like a marriage or the birth or adoption of a baby, we want to know! The GDS PA CARES committee is available to provide assistance to immediate family members of the GDS community during these times. Please see the PA Cares Representative for each division and contact them if you know someone who could use support. The committee member will then call the family and find out if GDS PA CARES can help them in any way. Examples of assistance and encouragement may be meals, transportation, homework pickup, flowers, cards, etc. Thank you for your help in supporting our Bengal community.
