Resources for International Students
Greensboro Day School offers a variety of support and services for international students, such as an international advisor, assistance in making travel and visa arrangements, and guidance in the college application process.
The GDS faculty recognizes the special needs and concerns of international students and their families. They take pride in providing support and guidance in all areas of cultural adjustment as students get accustomed to the United States educational system, school, and community life. Students enrolled in the program find a wonderful sense of community at GDS where diversity is widely celebrated.
International Student Entry into the United States
In order for an international student holding a foreign passport to enroll at a school in the United States, they must obtain an F-1 (or student) visa. Greensboro Day School is approved by the Department of Homeland Security to provide an I-20 to newly enrolled students; a document an international student will need in order to apply for the F-1 Visa. English as a Second Language (ESL)
For students who do not have the required English proficiency, GDS offers Advanced Intermediate and Advanced English as Second Language level classes. A student's eligibility for enrollment in these classes will be determined based on preliminary testing during orientation.

Dress Code
Greensboro Day School does not require uniforms for its students. Students are asked to dress in a modest, appropriate manner.
University Placement
A true university preparatory institution, Greensboro Day School emphasizes helping students build a solid foundation for their undergraduate experience and life beyond university through our college counseling program. The program for students regarding college selection begins in the 9th grade. Meetings begin in the 11th grade. The GDS College Counseling Office is dedicated to serving each student as an individual. They will work together to find the right match in a college or university, one that best suits the student’s academic and personal strengths.

Lingun Guo, Greensboro Day School School, Class of 2019, recently reacted to her first year at UC-Berkeley (Class of 2023) and how GDS prepared her for her for university.
"I would definitely recommend GDS to other Chinese students who want to study in the USA. GDS is an extremely inclusive and welcoming community that made me feel at home. It fosters a warm environment for every student and gives us enough opportunities to grow mentally. The teachers at GDS challenged us intellectually, encouraged us to think critically and work collaboratively, and really supported us along the way. They are really knowledgeable and approachable. I was not used to asking teachers questions when I was in China. But at GDS, I never hesitated to seek help whenever needed. Menghan Liu, GDS Class of 2020 credits his Greensboro Day School support for gaining admission to Wake Forest University, a Top 50 university. Menghan enrolled as a 9th grader and attended GDS for 4 years. Here are some of this thoughts:
"I chose GDS because my family and I knew GDS had a great reputation, and would provide me with a great education. At GDS, the relationship between teachers and students is really close. Since we have small classes, teachers are able to pay attention to every student in class. If you have any questions about schoolwork or just need a person to talk to, I know my teachers, classmates or even other GDS parents will always be there. GDS taught me to be open minded and embrace different ideas and cultures.
